Wiper Blades Skipping, Chattering, or Squeaking?

There are several causes of skipping and chattering wiper blades. Often, your wiper blades may be old and dried out and it is time to replace them. The blade portion of wipers is made of rubber, which oxidizes when exposed to sunlight and oxygen. Over time the rubber becomes brittle to point where it is not pliable enough to flex as it is swiped across the windshield. As a result, you get the skipping, squeaking, and chattering.

These problems can also be cause by wipers that are not bent to fit the shape of the windshield (which can leak uncleared spots), or if there is a layer of tree sap on the windshield causing the wipers to stick at various points during each swipe.

Do not Forget Your Rear Wiper Blade

Most Folks do not use their rear wiper very often. In fact, a lot of our customers do not even realize they have one. Because they are ignored or forgotten, the rear wiper blades on most cars are in the worst condition. We regularly find them torn with part of the rubber blade dangling off. This should be replaced not just so you can see, but also because if the arm is activated it may scratch the glass.

Rear wiper blades are often a different design that the standard wiper blades found on the front windshield. Not to worry, we have them in stock or can get them in a jiffy.

Why Are My Wiper Blades Streaking?

Wiper blades that smear or streak across your windshield are often just plain worn out and need to be replaced, but there are several other causes. The windshield could be dirty or have a layer of oil, or the wiper arm might not have enough tension to keep the wiper blade securely pressed against the windshield.

Another common problem is the wiper could be worn out in one spot, leaving that annoying streak right across the center of your line of vision. This often happens when you’ve used the wiper to clear bird poop or snow that has frozen onto your windshield.

The best solution is a good windshield cleaning and a fresh set of wiper blades. We recommend the Rain-X Latitude with Water Repellency Technology, which apply a layer of Rain-x water repellent to your windshield that will last for months.

Washer Fluid | Suburban Tire Auto Repair Centers

My Washer Fluid Won’t Squirt

Ok, let us assume your washer fluid reservoir is not empty. There are a few other causes. The wash fluid pump could be out of order or the washer fluid nozzles or hoses could be clogged. But the most common problem is frozen washer solvent. At the onset of each winter, we have clients who had their car serviced in the summer at a quick lube where they filled the washer solvent tank with a cheap summer blend of washer solvent. The summer blends typically do not have any ethanol in them to keep the washer solvent from freezing. If they haven’t used much of thier washer fluid since then, the solvent may freeze in the reservoir or hoses. The fix is easy. We just leave the car in our shop for a few hours to warm up, then pump out the summer blend and put in a full-strength winter blend.

Warranty on Wipers and Related Repairs

For wiper blade replacements, we have a one-year warranty against streaking or other problems. Sometimes they just need a minor adjustment to function correctly again. Either way we got you covered! With most other wiper related services, such as replacing wiper motors or washer fluid pumps, we offer a 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty.
